Gutter Repair and Replacement in Chicago

Overflowing gutters push water behind the fascia and into the walls. Get them fixed or replaced before the next heavy rain.

Overview

About gutter services

Gutters are part of the roof system, not an accessory to it. When they overflow, water runs behind the fascia and into the roof edge, saturates the soffit, and in winter contributes directly to ice dam formation. A surprising share of roof leaks at the eave are actually gutter problems.

Gutter work goes in as part of a roofing scope or on its own: replacement, repair, downspout routing and the fascia repair that often needs doing at the same time.

The Work

Gutter repair, replacement and guards

Seamless aluminum gutter replacement

Formed on site to the exact run length, which eliminates the joints that leak on sectional gutter.

Downspout routing and extension

Getting water far enough from the foundation to actually matter, including underground extensions where appropriate.

Leaf protection

Gutter guard options discussed honestly: including where they help and where they mostly move the maintenance somewhere else.

Fascia and soffit repair

Repairing the wood damage overflowing gutters cause, before new gutter is hung on it.

Repitching and resecuring

Correcting slope and re-hanging sagging runs so water reaches the downspout.

On The Roof

Gutter work, close up

The details that decide whether a roof reaches its rated life, most of them invisible once it is finished.

Where the water lands. A downspout that discharges against the foundation moves a roof problem into the basement.

Granules in the gutter. A handful after a new roof is normal; a gutter running with them means the shingles above are near the end.

Gutter questions

More questions are answered on the main FAQ page.

Do gutter guards actually work?

They reduce how often you clean gutters, which is real value on a two-story home or under heavy tree cover. They do not eliminate maintenance: fine debris still accumulates, and some designs shed water past the gutter in heavy rain. A roofer can tell you plainly whether your property is a good candidate.

Can overflowing gutters cause a roof leak?

Yes. Water backing up over the gutter edge runs behind the fascia and gets to the underside of the roof deck at the eave. In winter that same overflow contributes to ice dams. Eave leaks are frequently gutter problems.

Should gutters be replaced when the roof is replaced?

Not always, but it is the right time to evaluate them. Drip edge and the roof edge detail interact with the gutter, and if the gutters are near the end of their life, doing both at once is cheaper than doing them separately.
